My War of 1812 Ancestors
These are my ancestors with
service in the War of 1812 that I can prove. There may have been
a couple more. When I get a chance, I will flesh out the
descriptions of the service of my ancestors.
Estridge Daniel - Estridge Daniel served as a corporal in
the company of Captain Simon Gillaspie in the 17th Kentucky
Militia. This company consisted mostly of men from
Montgomery County, KY. Estridge and his widow both received
bounty land for his service.
George Burroughs - George Burroughs served as a private
in the company of Major Devall Payne in Colonel R. M. Johnson’s
regiment of mounted infantry. This company participated in
several notable actions; at the Battle of the Thames where
Tecumsah was killed; with the division that broke British lines
at the Battle of Lake Erie, etc. This company consisted mostly
of men from Mason County, KY. George received bounty land in
Pike County, MO, twice, for his service.
Isaac Hostetter - Isaac Hostetter served as a Lieutenant
in the company of Captain John Journey's Mounted Rangers. This
company was composed of men from the St. Charles District,
Missouri Territory. Isaac also served before the War of 1812 in
various conflicts with Indians. Both he and his widow died
before the Bounty Land Acts of 1850 and 1855 were passed.
